Vermont Model Neighborhood Details

Eligibility & Participation

The program is available to property residents in Essex, Caledonia and Orleans County. Incentives are available for 20 residential installations and 2 small commercial installations (includes non-profits and public buildings). Participant selection is based on diversity of building stock, suitability of existing heating infrastructure, willingness to help advocate for the project and share the experience, and other factors.

Financial Assistance

Residential: $3,000. Additional incentives up to $5,500 are available through Efficiency Vermont and the Renewable Energy Resource Center.

Public Buildings: Funding for public buildings or public-serving institutions is available to organizations in Caledonia, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, and Orleans counties.

Energy Efficiency

All residential participants will be required to complete a BPI Energy Audit (auditor selected by project team) at a cost of just $150 (the $500 audit is subsidized by Efficiency Vermont and the Center) and implement at least one energy efficiency upgrade, unless efficiency targets have already been met.

Non-residential participants will be expected to complete an energy efficiency assessment with Efficiency Vermont staff by phone or email, a no-cost service.

Adirondack Model Neighborhood Details

Eligibility & Participation

The program is available for homeowners in and around Saranac, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake. It is also available for owners of non-residential buildings in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties, with special emphasis on municipal projects. Participant selection will be based on diversity of building stock, suitability of existing heating infrastructure, willingness to help advocate for the project and share the experience, and other factors.

Financial Assistance

Currently, we offer incentives of 15% of installed cost up to $2,500 and $10,000 for municipal projects.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency audits are required for all participating buildings as a way to identify additional energy-saving opportunities.
