The Northern Forest Center rents eight apartments in downtown Millinocket across three restored buildings. The Northern Forest Center is a non-profit organization formed to create bold possibilities that give rise to vibrant communities across northern Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Since 2018, the Center has been investing in property redevelopment to contribute to downtown revitalization and the attraction and retention of area workers and families. Three apartments are available for year-round rent at this time.

The Center started their housing redevelopment in Millinocket in 2018 redeveloping 6 buildings into 11 housing units. Some buildings have been sold to full-time residents. The Center continues to rent eight apartments at 26 Central St, 9 Penobscot Ave, and 100 Katahdin Ave.
