Charlie Niebling

Boscawen, NH

A New Hampshire native, Charlie began his career as a forester with the US Forest Service as a forest biologist working in California.  He and his wife Mabel, whom he met while a student at the University of Vermont, returned to NH in 1987 to assume leadership of the NH Timberland Owners Association.  In this role Charlie became familiar with the issues facing forest landowners and the forest products industry and gained a reputation as an effective advocate in forest policy.

Charlie joined the Society for the Protection of NH Forests in 1997 as vice president to supervise management of 40,000+ acres of forest reservations and lead natural resource policy advocacy. During this time Charlie was principal architect of the creation and funding of the NH Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) and played a significant role in helping to secure state and federal funding for land conservation in the Northern Forest region.

Eager to parlay his experience in trade association and non-profit leadership into private business, Charlie joined New England Wood Pellet in 2006 as general manager during a period of significant growth for the company. Charlie was a recognized leader in advancing modern wood heating, including founding, and serving as board chair of the Washington, DC-based Biomass Thermal Energy Council.  Now retired, Charlie has served as board chair of Clean Energy NH, the state’s energy policy advocacy group.
