As the summer recreation season draws closer, we’re excited to share a resource created last year by UNH Sustainability Fellow Caleigh Mullins: “Successful Outdoor Recreation Projects in the Northern Forest: Case Studies and Key Takeaways.”

Caleigh profiled nine community projects or organizations: the Katahdin Gear Library (Millinocket, ME), Western Maine Recovery Outings, Buck’s Ledge Community Forest (Woodstock, ME), Coos Cycling Club (Gorham, NH), Mill City Park at Franklin Falls (Franklin, NH), Ascutney Ski Area (VT), Bolton Dome (Bolton, VT), Elizabethtown Trail Center (NY), and Dewey Mountain (Saranac Lake, NY). She goes into detail about how these groups started, function, fundraise, and impact their communities. The report concludes with key takeaways and resources for others starting community outdoor recreation projects.
