Residents of the Maine West communities of Harrison and Bethel are benefiting from new public access Wi-Fi hotspots provided by Community Concepts Finance Corporation and the Northern Forest Center.

Free Wi-Fi service is now available on the town common in Bethel thanks to hotspots at the Bethel Public Library and the Bethel Historical Society. In Harrison, new service is available at the town office, Crystal Lake Park, and the Harrison Food Bank.

The project is made possible by a grant to Community Concepts from the Northern Border Regional Commission and additional support from the Center as part of the Maine West initiative. Additional hotspots are available for up to four more local communities.

Free public access hotspots are an important way to expand internet access to people who can’t access or afford service at home,” said Center Senior Program Director Mike Wilson. “This project is an early step in our work with Community Concepts to secure universal, affordable, reliable, and future-ready internet service for Maine West communities.”

The new public hotspots installed in Bethel and Harrison add to downtown hotspots installed with support from Maine West in Rumford as part of a broader downtown fiber internet buildout.
