Leading on Sustainable Tourism

The Center hosted the Northern Forest Destination Summit Oct. 27 at the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, New Hampshire.

The Center convened 85 local, state, and regional leaders from Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to share their experiences and learn about sustainable tourism in the region.

The event built on regional and local work by the Center to help communities work sustainably within the tourism sector through its Rural Tourism Academy and Community Destination Academy programs. Stakeholders explored the opportunities and risks presented by tourism and recreation development, and strategies to secure positive net benefits for rural communities.
