Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, a 150-acre mountaintop playground for dog lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, is sporting several major upgrades to its trail network, thanks in part to funding from the Center and its Sustainable VT Trails Program.
The Center teamed up with the NEK Welcome Wagon, a chapter of the Vermont Welcome Wagon Project, to host a three-day community immersion event called “Keys to the Kingdom” for prospective Vermonters.
The Center-led Bike Borderlands mountain bike network collaborative is doubling from 8 to 16 member networks, including destinations in New York state for the first time.
The Northern Forest Center opened nine new apartments and two new commercial spaces in its renovated building in downtown St. Johnsbury, Vermont, adding to middle-market housing available.
With help from the Center’s business innovation advisor, Amy Robinson, Goodridge Lumber secured a grant for more than $225,000 so it could switch from diesel to 3-phase power from a local utility, enabling the mill to continue as a critical link in the local forest economy.
The Northern Forest Center is just $143,000 away from raising the full $5.9 million cost of transforming a historic building into a cornerstone of the St. Johnsbury community.
